I just wanted to add my voice to the "rent first" advice. WQe moved here in 2008 and rented for 6 months whilst deciding on where we wanted to live. We started on the Urb as a base, but quickly realised it was for us. We then had plenty of time to look at all that was on offer before buying our house. I used a solicitor from La Mata who was recommended to us, and did not regret paying a fee, as she was not in cahoots with anybody on the Urb.
Wherever you do buy, make sure all the paperwork is in order with a current Habitation Certificate and an up to date energy certificate. Everything else flows from that. The Spanish love paperwork, especially the local council.
So - renting first is great.
AND It is a great place to live!
Good Luck
